Creative Capital - The Film Industry

March 22nd, 2010
Like all creative industries, the film industry is a murky mirror of its zeitgeist, not only social and cultural, but also technological. Much of the great breakthroughs in the film industry are due to technological advances, whether it was adding sound or today’s digital ability of doing almost everything. Where does this leave film? What is really important? The story?, the history?, the idea? Or the technique behind a camera?

This event was held on October 22nd 2009.

Creative Capital: Entrepreneurship

March 22nd, 2010
Alessandro Baricco, an Italian writer, director and performer, once wrote that ideas are like galaxies of little intuitions, ever-changing and, in practical terms, quite useless. Sheer beauty, however. And then he added that when we express it we have to make it coherent, we have to pin it down and whilst doing it, we have to cut here, add there, tidy the whole, a bit: we work it out.
How is this connected with entrepreneurship? Because entrepreneurship starts with a good idea, with a great idea, and our own belief in that idea. From then onwards each one will have an individual way to bring it to life, to make it whole, to communicate it, pitch it, get it across.

This event was held @ The Hospital Club, November 18th 2009.

Creative Capital // Philanthropy In The Creative Economy

December 21st, 2009

(July 2009)

Philanthropy derives from Ancient Greek, meaning “to love people” and is often translated through donating money, goods, services, time and effort to support a socially beneficial cause. With the rise of social enterprise and human capital, philanthropy has taken on new roles in the economy. Artists, designers, entrepreneurs and enterprises alike are using the concept of philanthropy as a subject matter and a currency to respond to both present and future needs.

Creative Capital // Design Provocations

December 21st, 2009

(May 2009)

Debating Design and Design for Debate.

“Is the recent dialogue between designers and other disciplines mutating design and therefore mutating our world” Paola Antonelli

Stimulated by advances in emergent technologies and operating in a speculative field design at this moment is the most Darwinistic of disciplines. Designers are using imaginary narratives and objects to provoke debate, discuss future possibilities and facilitate engagement. Designers are designing cells, body parts, religions and rituals, money, future implication scenarios and new interactions. The object is no longer a slick glossy finished product but a platform for endless possibilities.
