Challenge
Oxford University Press was launching a new edition of the American National Biography and wanted to promote it in a way that felt accessible, joyful, and shareable online. The challenge was to distil a vast, scholarly body of work into short-form content that could spark curiosity, capture attention in digital channels, and encourage audiences to explore the publication further—without losing intellectual credibility.
Solution
Ludic Media Studio developed a series of short, engaging animations built around a digitally animated “scribe” style. This approach combined visual simplicity with precise narrative control, allowing complex historical ideas to be communicated clearly and playfully. Working collaboratively across scripting, visual design, animation, and editing, we shaped each film as a self-contained story while maintaining a consistent tone and identity across the series, aligned to OUP’s brand and editorial standards.
Impact
Following launch, the animations reached a global audience and generated strong engagement across online platforms. To date, the series has achieved over 75,000 views, helping Oxford University Press connect with history enthusiasts worldwide and demonstrate how imaginative, human-centered storytelling can amplify academic content and extend its reach beyond traditional audiences.
